Industry 4.0 is a strategic way to connect the systems based on Internet technology with the goal of establishing communication between machines, people, products and business systems. The term „industry 4.0“ was first introduced in 2011 at an industrial tehcnology world exhibit „Hannover Messe“ as part of the German industrial strategy for the period up to 2020.
Main goals are to create smart factories and digitalize business and manufacturing processes to increase overall quality, shorten business and manufacturing costs and increase flexibility and manufacturing efficiency. Because of its universal principles, Industry 4.0 can also be succesfully applied outside manufacturing area – in health, management and education systems. That way, the costs of providing services is reduced, the service cycle duration is shortened and efficiency of the energy systems is increased.
In the next five years Europe plans to invest over 500 million euros in the development of Industry 4.0 and business digitalization.
Industry 4.0 and business digitalization are a big chance for Croatian industry, and society in general to quickly start replacing the existing systems of Industry 2.0 and 3.0 with cybernetic-mechanical systems of Industry 4.0. Companies in Croatia need to embed in their strategies the transition to Industry 4.0 and positioning on the new market of the European union and world for the period up to 2020. The changes that await us are a chance for growth for Croatian industry, economy and society as a whole that must be taken advantage of because the consequences otherwise are society lags, declining in companies and industry, poverty and isolation.
